Subject of reported abduction, Amber Alert in Summerside found safe

The subject of thereported abduction and Amber Alert contacted Summerside police Monday evening to let them know she is OK, police said in a release.

At 11:58 a.m., police received a call from a witness reporting that they had just seen a vehicle travelling east on Walker Avenue from Granville Street toward MacEwen Road with a girl describedas looking about 12 years old yelling out the window.

An emergency alert was sent out to Island cellphones shortly after 1 p.m. AT.

At about 7:15 p.m., police issued another alert with a description of a "potential vehicle of interest."

"After this evening's updated media release, the female involved contacted police to report that she believed she was the person police were looking for and that this incident was a misunderstanding," the release said.

"The person involved told police she had seen the photo of the vehicle of interest posted on social media platforms and said she was a passenger in that vehicle and yelled out the window to a friend in another vehicle, jokingly saying she had been kidnapped."

Police said the peoplein both vehicles were known to each other, and that there was no intention by the woman to cause the public alarm.

"Police were able to confirm the details of the woman's version of events and are satisfied that she is the person involved and that there was no abduction," the release said.

Summerside police thanked Island RCMP, Charlottetown police, and the general public for their help.
