P.E.I. MLAs given rag dolls as reminder of child poverty

Poverty dolls were given to P.E.I. MLAs Friday as a reminder child poverty exists on the Island.

The rag dolls were presented by members of the United Church Women as part of as an initiative to end child poverty on P.E.I. and across Canada.

"We've asked that they would keep these and whenever they look at them, they would be reminded that we have child poverty on Prince Edward Island and that we need to do something about it," said Helen MacLeod, UCW provincial president.

"We believe that the government needs to help us with trying to eradicate child poverty on Prince Edward Island."

The group says government support is needed to make sure Island children have their basic needs met, including safe housing and food security.
