Regina mom suing over daughter's laundry chute death

The mother of a Regina woman who plunged to her death down a hotel laundry chute last year is suing the hotel for negligence.

Nadine Machiskinic, 29, died on Jan. 10, 2015, after falling 10 storeys down the chute at the Delta Regina Hotel.

The statement of claim, filed with the Court of Queen's Bench in Regina, accuses the Delta Hotel and the company that owns it Luxury Hotels International of Canada of not using reasonable care to prevent injury.

The lawsuit also says hotel security, as well as the manufacturer and installer of the chute will be defendants.

The suit calls the chute "a hidden and inviting danger" that wasn't locked or monitored.

In the claim, Machiskinic's mother Laura Apooch says she has lost care, guidance and financial support as a result of her daughter's death.

Some monetary claims are made in the suit, including $30,000 for each of Machiskinic'sfour young children,but there's no grand total listed.

A statement of claim contains allegations that have not been proven in court.

CBC News contacted management at the hotel in Regina and was told there is no comment.
