Photos capture impact of research

The University of Saskatchewan is again reaching out to researchers around the world asking them to submit images of their work.

Knowledge is beautiful.- Kathryn Warden

"We are doing some remarkable research that is having an impact," said Kathryn Warden in an interview with CBC Radio's The Afternoon Edition.

Warden is the director of research profile and impact at the U of S and said that the 2015 Images of Research competition was so successful; they are doing it again this year.

"Knowledge is beautiful," said Warden.

Photos sent from as far away as Bangladeshand Tanzania

Last year, the U of S received 90 submissions from students, staff, faculty and alumni. A multidisciplinary panel selected eight winning photographs in four categories and a grand prize winner. Matt Lindsay's photo of a river in Spain won. It shows how a rainbow of colours can be created when a metal-contaminated stream mixes with more neutral water.

Warden said she is looking forward to seeing what this year's contest brings.

"The kind of research that these photos show, it varies, it can show what is going on in a labit can show what is happening in field work and it really kind of shows that we are making discoveries."
