New Saskatoon podcast unearths stories from the underground

Eric Anderson always knew there were more Saskatoon stories to be found under the surface if he just dug a little deeper.

The former CBC journalist said it is not unusual to come across incredible personal stories when scouring the news and social media.

But he wants to shine a spotlight on people who are making a difference offline, and under the radar.

"I thought to myself there's got to be another layer of people, who are doing awesome things who are doing great things in the community, making an impact, but maybe aren't as active on social media," Anderson said in an interview with CBC Radio's Saskatchewan Weekend.

Anderson is the host, creator and producer of the new YXE Underground podcast.

The series of interviews is dedicated to finding those untold stories of people doing amazing things to make the city a better place.

Community changers

His interviewees so far include the man behind the Saskatoon Entertainment Expo, whose personal crisis gave way to a celebration of comic culture.

Anderson also interviewed a star University of Saskatchewan athlete turned teacher and mentor, and a speech pathologist who changes lives through her work with the Speech Language Network.

He hopes the series will help bring attention to the people working to make Saskatoon a better place.

"I hope [listeners] realize that there are so many people working really, really hard to make this community as great as it can be," said Anderson

"There's so many wonderful, amazing things happening in this city, but there's also lots of challenges."

The show launches Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018.
