Laurentian University engineers to defend Canadian Engineering Competition title

Students who aspire to wear the iron ring are competing for gold this weekend at a national engineering competition in Montreal, QC and Laurentian University's team is defending its number one title.

Students who aspire to wear the iron ring are competing for gold this weekend at a national engineering competition in Montreal, QC and Laurentian University's team is defending anumber one title.

Undergradsfrom theBhartiSchool of Engineering madeheadlines last yearwhen their both the junior and senior design teamstook first place at the Canadian Engineering Competition in St. John's, NL.

StephaneLabine was on that winning junior team, and is headed to McGillUniversity in Montreal this week as a senior team member.

He told CBC that he learned a lot last year in competition.

"Most teams try to think of something that's going to try to impress the judges and go really complex," he said.

"Depending on how you read the rules, you have to see what matters most ... We built something that was really simple, quickand efficient [and won]."

Laurentian University is returning to the Canadian Engineering Competition to defend its championship title. Stephane Labine was on the winning junior team last year. This year, he's competing with the senior team. He spoke to us about the competition.
