Northeastern Ontario leads in registered organ donation

The Ontario Trillium Gift of Life Network has issued its latest figures on organ donor registrations across the province.

The top ten communities with the highest registration numbers overall are all within northeastern Ontario.

Lively is in first place, with58%of eligible organ donors registered with the network.

Val Caron, Hanmer and Garson, all communitieswithin Greater Sudbury,follow on the list of top organ donor registrations.

All three are above 55%.

The provincial rate for organ donor registration is 29%.

That translates to 341,998 registered organ donors in Ontario.

The Trillium Gift of Life Network said1,579Ontario residents are on the waiting list for organ transplants.

One personcan save up to eight lives through organ donation.
