NDPhealth critic France Gelinas says she wants answers from the province about a technical issue that may have affected people who needed an organ donor.

Health Minister Eric Hoskins released information on Tuesday that there were issues with the Service Ontario Be A Donor" website.

It meant some people who registered online between March 23 of last year and Sept. 19 of this year may have incomplete or inaccurate records.

Of the 87 people who registered and passed away during this time, nine made tissue donations, Gelinas said.

She said she wouldn't want to be in the place of someone waiting for a transplant.

As time goes on, sometimes you don't qualify anymore because your health fails, she said.

To know that maybe there had been [an opportunity to receive an organ] and it got missed, I wouldn't want to be living through that nightmare.

Hoskins said just under 60,000 people could be affected by the glitch.

The site has since been fixed, he added.

But Gelinas said she has more questions.

How can it be that it went on for 18 months and nobody picked it up? Let's learn from our mistakes, she said.
