Sudbury councillors eye lofty development pitches, but want more information

Some councillors in Sudbury says they don't have enough financial information as they gear-up to review pitches for 16 development projects.

They are expected to look at proposals like an Arts Junction workspace, a film studio and two arenas ideas that were first presented to council in November and came up again at a city council meeting on Tuesday night.

Council is expected toprioritize the projects later this month.

But Ward 5 councillor Robert Kirwan expressed concern about a lack of information as to how much each project will cost.

"There's not enough in here that I can really prioritize," he said.

"Most of these proponents are going to want to meet and say, 'here are the real numbers. We couldn't give it to you, because it's a competitive world out there'."

Other pitches include an assisted living facility in Capreol, and a new library downtown.

Ward 11 Coun. Lynne Reynolds, said they need a bit more detailfirst.

"I've asked that a little bit more information come to us in terms of when these funds would be needed, how many jobs they would create and whether there would be any tax levy impact," she said.

Council will meet again to discuss the projects at a meeting set for April 26.
