Victims identified in northern Ontario plane crash

The names of two victims in a plane crash north of Cochrane on Friday afternoon have been released.

The names of two victims in a plane crash north of Cochrane on Friday afternoon have been released.

Provincial Police in Cochrane say 55-year-old Richard Douglas of Napanee and 56-year-old Glen Higgs of Cochrane died after their beaver aircraft crashed on Lillabelle Lake just north of Cochrane.

A third man in the crash survived. OPP confirmed that he is in stable condition in hospital.

The plane was owned by Air Cochrane.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident. The plane a de Havilland Beaver was attempting a landing when it was flipped over by the wind and submerged, said Mark Jones, office manager with Air Cochrane.

Air Cochrane runs fly-in fishing and hunting flights in the area.
