It's that time of the year again. Cyclists across Thunder Bay are pulling out their bikes and dusting off their fears. Adam Krupper is Mobility Coordinator for the City of Thunder Bay.

Bike lanes across the city of Thunder Bay, Ont. are open as of Sunday, May 1, 2016.

"Everybody should get rolling, it's that time of year," said Adam Krupper, mobility co-ordinator for the City of Thunder Bay.

This year will see the first full season of the Arundel Active Living Corridor on the northside of the city. Flexible plastic barriers known as "bollards"are set to be reinstalled on Hudson avenue to separate the walking and bikingarea from the road.

When it comes to staying safe on the pavement, Krupper said there are no divisions when it comes to summer safety.

"We really shouldn't make a big distinction between cyclists and motorists. The number one message that we have to tell everybody really and truly is to be considerate of each other on the road and really communicate."

"Be courteous for everybody," he said, "it's the right thing to do."

This summer Active Transportation Thunder Bay will be doing more monitoring on the usage and upkeep of bike lanes, as part of an ongoing analysis into education and community engagement.

"What we're trying to do is provide better information to the public, and we're trying to reduce the annual workload to maintain the system," said Krupper.
