Candice Rochelle Bobb remembered by Rexdale community

Residents of a Rexdale community gathered Sunday to remember Candice Rochelle Bobb, the 35-year-old pregnant woman who was shot and killed last weekend while riding in the back seat of a car.

Members of the community prayed for Bobb's family, while demanding more action to keep guns off the streets.

"There's no more time for talking, I need action," said local pastor Keaton Austin.

"My brothers are getting killed, my sisters are getting killed, the government has to stop it."

It's not clear who the intended target was when the car Bobb was riding in, near John Garland Boulevard and Jamestown Crescent, was sprayed with bullets.

No one inside the car was known to police.

Police are investigating but have not made any arrests.

Rexdale Rev. James Robinson says trust between residents and the police was never built in the neighbourhood, but says even small gestures could make a big difference.

"I would like to see a police car drive by here, when guys are shooting hoops, police stop and shoot hoops with them," he said. "That would leave an imprint with those guys on the court."

Members of Rochelle Bobb's family weren't at the Jamestown vigil, but thanked organizers privately for their prayers.

Bobb's baby was delivered by an emergency C-section and remains in hospital in stable condition
