The Don Valley Parkway is slated to stay open during the evening rush hour, despite earlier concerns that heavy rainand flooding might close the crucial artery in and out of Toronto.

"Currently, precipitation is not as intense as had been predicted," read a news release from the city. "Should conditions worsen, a closure could still be necessary."

The decision was based on rainfall datafrom the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) and Environment Canada.

According to precipitation outlooks, Toronto could see up to 70mm of rain before ittapers offSaturday. By around 2 p.m. ET today, though, about 43.9 mm had fallen on the city proper.

Heavy rain has already caused some flooding in low-lying neighbourhoods and around the waterfront.
