A York University PhD student who was convicted of sexually assaulting a fellow graduate student was released on bail Wednesday.

A Superior Court judge granted the defence request for bail for Mustafa Ururyar, who was convicted last month of forcing Mandi Gray to perform oral sex and engage in sexual intercourse back on Jan. 31, 2015.

Days after his conviction, Justice Marvin Zukerrevoked Ururyar's bail ahead of sentencing on September 14.

Ururyar's defence team has filed an appeal of his conviction.

On Wednesday, defence lawyer Lisa Bristow confirmed to CBC News that the appeal judge, Ontario Superior CourtJustice Michael Quigley, released Ururyar from jailandwould be issuing his reasoning at a later date.
