Nepal earthquake: Canadian Red Cross readies mobile hospital

The Canadian Red Cross is set to send an emergency mobile hospital to earthquake-ravaged Nepal on Tuesday.

At the organization's Mississauga, Ont., warehouse, workers raced to pack up the rapid deployment emergency hospital, which will be stocked with enough medical supplies to last up to three months. Officials hope the facility will be able to serve thousands of people.

"This field hospital, essentially, we can set it up in one area and we can take modules off it and go into the field and much more into the rural areas and provide that clinical care," said ChiranLivera.

That capability will likely come in handy when it comes to reaching people in remote areas outside of Kathmandu, who have been cut off by the quake and subsequent aftershocks.

Four large transport planes are set to transport the equipment to Nepal.

The Red Cross is also continuing to accept donations on its website throughout the crisis.

More than 4,600 people are feared dead following Saturday's earthquake. The Nepalese government expects that death toll to climb in the coming days.
