Which services would be affected if there's a Toronto indoor workers labour stoppage?

As the city works to hammer out a new labour deal with its unionized inside workers, here's a list of the services that could be affected in the event of a labour disruption.

The city reached a deal withCUPELocal 416, which represents more than 5,000 outdoor workers on Friday, but it's still in talks withCUPELocal 79, which represents more than 23,000 indoor workers.

If the city doesn't reach a tentative deal with Local 79, those workers would be in a legal strike position by Saturday.

As the city works to hammer out a new labour deal with itsunionizedinside workers, here's a list of the services that could be affected in the event of a labour disruption.

The city has said thefollowing services will not operate in the event of a strike or lockout:

  • Child care centres.
  • Arenas and community centres, city operated ski hills, ice rinks and pools and classes.
  • Building permits.

Services that will not be affectedby a work stoppageinclude:

  • Fire.
  • Police.
  • Paramedics.
  • Long-term city-operated care homes.
  • Waste water treatment.
  • Transportation services (snow clearing, sanding).
  • Ontario Works clients will continue to get their benefits.
  • Toronto newcomer office will stay open for Syrian refugees.
  • Out of the cold program.
  • Emergency shelters.
  • Toronto court services.
  • Most public libraries.
