The TTC says it is about to launch a corporate plan that will mean a "sea change" for the public transportation agency.

TTC CEO Andy Byford said Wednesday his organization has "embarked on a five-year journey to completely modernize the TTC and thereby transform our reputation."

"We have already reorganized to put the customer at the centre of everything we do and to make our company more transparent and accountable," he said in a statement.

The inaugural five-year plan aims to "transform and modernize" the transit system with seven strategic objectives:

  • safety
  • customer service
  • empowered workforce
  • management of assets
  • capacity growth
  • financial sustainability
  • accountability

Byford said the TTC executive intends to meet with all 12,500 staff over the next few weeks to explain its vision while ensuring that employees "understand and buy-in to the change required to modernize the TTC."

"This plan represents a sea change in the way the TTC is managed and the way it interacts with employees, customers and stakeholders alike. I am confident that with this plan and all of our efforts, we will transform the TTC and deliver on our vision of a transit system that makes Toronto proud," he said.
