Uncle of Andrea Christidis says family condemns impaired driving

It was a heartbreaking Thanksgiving for the family of a teenager who was killed by an alleged drunk driver on the Western University campus last week, the girl's uncle said Monday.

Itwas a heartbreaking Thanksgiving for the family of a teenager who waskilled by an alleged drunk driver on the Western University campuslast week, the girl's uncle said Monday.

"We are heartbroken, we are devastated," MeniRizakossaid Monday."Instead of enjoying time with their family today, my sister Georgia, her husband Chris and their daughterAlexia are preparing to lay our precious Andrea to rest."

AndreaChristidis, 18, of Scarborough,was critically injured after being hit by a car last Wednesday evening. She died in hospital on Friday.

According to police, Christidis, who began studying health sciences at Western University in September,was walking on a sidewalk on campus when a car jumped the curb and hit her. Rizakos told reporters Sunday that Christidis had been headed back to her dorm after a study lab.

Rizakos described his niece as a "happy, fun loving, 18-year-old girl" who "was away at university on her first great adventure when her life was cut short."

In a statement, Christidis's parents said they condemn impaired driving and asked for privacy as they grieve the loss of their daughter.

A visitation was held at the Heritage Funeral Centre inEast York on Tuesday evening andfuneral services will be held Wednesday morning atSt. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.Christidis will be laid to rest at Pine Hills Cemetery in Scarboroughon Wednesday.

Western University said it will lower itsflag on University College in Christidis's honour Wednesay.

London Police have charged a 24-year-old London manwithdangerous driving causing bodily harm, impaired operation causing bodily harm, and having in excess of 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
