Chatham-Kent officer demoted for one year following guilty plea

A Chatham-Kent police officer pleaded guilty to two charges under the Police Services Act yesterday, receiving a one-year demotion in rank.

Constable Brad Molnar was convicted of neglect of duty and discreditable conduct stemming from a complaint filed with the Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD).

As a result of his conviction, Molnar was demoted to the rank of second class constable for one year.

Molnar originally faced three charges -- the two for which he was convicted, as well as an insubordination charge that was withdrawn by the prosecutor.

Staff Sgt. Mike Domony told CBC News that the content of the complaint aimed at Molnar "related to the manner in which he did not conduct a proper investigation into an assault allegation made by the complainant on behalf of her son."
