Nemak invests $15M and hires 80 in Windsor

Nemak of Canada Corp will invest $15 million in its Windsor plant to create 80 manufacturing jobs in Windsor.

The $15 million includes $1.5 from the Ontario government.

The province is funding Nemak, an automotive manufacturer of aluminum parts in Windsor's west end, through its Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.

Charles Sousa, the province's minister of finance, made the announcement at the plant on Monday.

"Advanced manufacturing is a key sector for Ontarios economy, and partnering on expansions like this one are important opportunities for the province," Ontario's Minister of Finance Charles Sousa said in a statement.

"I think it's critical for us to have strong strategies around industry sectors and Brad Duguid, the minister of economic development and employment is looking at auto strategy specifically as it relates to this region," Sousa said.

Auto parts destined for China

The company produces engine parts for GM's plant in Shanghai, China.

"This is a key strategy for anyone wanting to be competitive in the global marketplace," Glenn Byczynski, Nemak's technical manager said.

The president of the Windsor-Essex Chamber of Commerce welcomed the announcement.

"It's a great day here in Windsor-Essex again and we're going to capitalize on auto investment and auto strategy in our community," said Matt Marchand.
