Easy Gifts Kids Can Make: Acorn-Cap Emoji Necklaces

Since fall has arrived and temperatures are getting colder, the ground is filling up with gifts from the trees. My personal favourite? The modest acorn, because there's a variety of fun things you can do with the nut and the caps. Today I'm going to show you how to make some sweet little acorn necklaces, and we're going to use the caps as our base. I think you're going to find they're incredibly adorable, and easy to make. This is a great craft for kids of all ages.

To make your own you will need:

• acorn caps (look for large ones)
• hook eyes (the smallest size you can find)
• magazines, baubles or paper to draw your own images
• scissors
• glue
• Mod Podge Dimensional Magic (optional, but highly recommended)
• yarn or cord

To begin, collect your acorn caps. Large ones work best.

Then get out your eye hooks and screw them into the top of your acorn cap. The end bit will be visible on the inside of your cap, but not to worry.

Next, decide what you want to go inside. You can use pictures from magazines, draw your own or find pretty little jewels or baubles that fit. You will want whatever you put in to be roughly dime sized (in fact, we used a dime to trace around and then cut out our images and blank bits of paper). 

Add a dab of glue to the back of your picture or baubles and press them inside the acorn cap.

Then add a layer of Mod Podge Dimensional Magic on top of your images or baubles. It will look cloudy at first, but it needs about 3 hours to dry. As it dries, slowly you will see it clear.
The Dimensional Magic doesn't have to be used. If you are just using pictures, they will glue down nicely and you can be done. I do like the extra layer of durability you get with the Dimensional Magic, and if you are using baubles it will hold them nicely in place!

Thread your hook with some cord or colourful yarn and enjoy!
