Whether it's a weekday or the busiest weekend of the year, flying can be a terrible experience . There is one easy way to make the process a little bit better, and it starts with sticking to the Golden Rule: treat others the way you would want to be treated.

Unfortunately, some people have a hard time remembering to follow such a simple statement. Here's a little reminder for those who forget how to be a decent human being while 36,000 feet in the air.

1. Know that you're not the only one stuck in a tiny seat.

But you can't rearrange the plane once you're on it. Grin and bear it, people.

2. Recline respectfully.

Reclining stinks, but it's not a crime. Just try to be cognizant of other people's knees-- simple as that.

3. Flight attendants are people, not personal assistants.

Yes, FA's are there to serve you drinks and help with various scenarios, but they're also people who deserve the utmost respect.

4. Smelly food is bad news for everyone

If your tuna sandwich smells pungent to you, it's probably torturous for everyone next to you as well.

5. Not everyone wants to hear you speak.

Have a cool story you want to share? Go ahead -- tell it, but please don't YELL it. Especially if you're flying at night and people are just trying to get some shut-eye.

6. And not everyone wants to listen to your music or movie.

Put in your headphones and keep that volume at a respectable level.

7. Taking off your shoes is NOT an option.

End of story.

8. Don't get angry at the crying baby.

The little baby is crying for a reason, so try not to make things worse by yelling at them OR their parents. Chances are, they're more exhausted than you are.

9. Remember everyone has to get somewhere.

You are not the center of the universe (or this plane). Let's all get through this together.
