Denzel Washington has signed on to direct an episode of "Grey's Anatomy."

The actor and two-time Oscar winner will get behind the camera for the ninth episode of Season 12 , TVLine reports. The episode will begin shooting later this month.

Washington has previously directed films -- "Antwone Fisher" and "The Great Debaters" -- but this project marks his first time directing for TV.

As DigitalSpy notes, Washington is good friends with "Grey's" star and director Debbie Allen , which could have been a factor in getting him to helm an episode. No word on whether he'll ever appear onscreen, but we can hope, right?
