Known as one of the countrys most highly visible symbols of LGBTQ equality, the Equality House is bouncing back after becoming the target of homophobic vandals in October.

The rainbow-colored house, which stands across from the vehemently anti-LGBTQ Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, has been owned by a non-profit called Planting Peace since 2013. At the time of the purchase, Planting Peace founder Aaron Jackson said he and his colleagues opted to paint the building in the colors of the LGBTQ pride flag in hopes that it would be seen as a permanent celebration of the community. Since then, its been the site of a number of high-profile LGBTQ advocacy events, including a childs lemonade stand for peace and a same-sex wedding .
