Stephen Colbert Makes 'Weird' Discovery In Jack Smith's New Trump Brief

The "Late Show" host pointed to the special counsel's "damning language" in his 165-page filing on Trump.

Stephen Colbert delighted in a surprise 165-page filing from special counsel Jack Smith that argues how former President Donald Trump , in his attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election, resorted to crimes.

Thats pretty damning language, I gotta say, but kinda weird word choice to say Trump resorted to crimes, quipped The Late Show host on Thursday.

Thats like saying with nowhere else to turn, the bear resorted to pooping in the woods, its just what they do. And just a note, resorted to crimes, should not be confused with crime resort, another name for Mar-a-Lago.

The legal brief, unsealed by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Wednesday, offers new evidence in the federal election case against Trump. It arrived roughly three months after the Supreme Courts immunity ruling .

Colbert later noted that Smith uses the filing to point out that Trump did all of this as a candidate, someone seeking office, not an office holder.

Smith, in his filing, noted that Trump entered and exited his pre-Capitol riot rally to songs like Y.M.C.A. by the Village People .

Yes, he wasnt there as president, he was there as a young man, joked Colbert as he mimicked the first line of the classic 70s song.
