UPDATE: April 4 The Fresno County Sheriffs Department said it has positively identified the woman as a 33-year-old Virginia resident. The department didnt release the womans name and said in a statement that there was a possibility she is the victim of a crime.

Police in Fresno, California, are asking for the publics help identifying a young woman found soaking wet and wandering in the street early Tuesday.

The woman, who officers estimated is between 16 and 30, said she was a mermaid named Joanna, but was unable to answer questions, according to a news release from the police department. She was found near the Eagle Springs Golf and Country Club in Friant.
