WHAT'S HAPPENING
Manuel Tortuguita Teran, an activist protesting a police training center near Atlanta, was shot 57 times by police.
Atlanta officials have refused to verify signatures submitted by activists who have been trying to stop the construction of a police and firefighter training center.
The protest comes two days after the Georgia attorney general announced a massive RICO indictment against 61 individuals they allege are militant anarchists.
The charges following a long-running state investigation into protests against a proposed police and training facility in the Atlanta area.
Activists have announced an effort to force a referendum that would allow Atlanta voters to decide whether the construction of the controversial training center should proceed.
The vote comes after months of organizing against the site and hours of public comment asking for the legislation to be rejected.
